A Twist Of Fate was formed in December 2018 by like-minded musicians, delivering its own unique twist of groove metal, death n’ roll, metalcore, and hard rock. Its current line-up consists of journalist Yuen Meikeng on guitar and vocals, and metalhead, Kenneth Ng on bass and vocals.
The Star journalists, Jo Timbuong and Martin Carvalho both share an immense love for music and started performing together at their company’s anniversary celebration in 2019.
Martin is of Serani – Peranakan ancestry from Melaka, and has been spotted on Facebook performing covers of his favourite tunes on his guitar in his ‘kain pelikat’. He also has over 15 years of experience in journalism and is a nominee in the Wartawan Otai category at this year’s Media Solidarity Awards. While Jo, who hails from Penampang, Sabah, started her journalism journey as a tech journalist in 2005. She performed with the Young KL Singers from 2009 to 2012 and sang backing vocals on Martin Vengadesan & The Stalemate Factor’s third album, The Knight’s Flight.
Pyanhabib is a veteran poet and actor. He has starred in the 1987 film Kembara Seniman Jalanan (KSJ), as well as Tsu FehSofiah (1986), Tak Kisahlah Beb (1989) and Mat Som (1990). Within the Malaysian literature circles, Pyanhabib is known for his rugged image and unique style of writing and reciting ‘puisi’ (Malay poetry). His loud vocals and dramatic acts of recital on the streets of Kuala Lumpur consistently garner public attention. A former writer for Utusan Malaysia, Pyanhabib’s poetry combines a critical socio-political narrative with the daily grind of regular Malaysians.
